Lessons From a Versalette Challenge

A couple of weeks ago I participated in Seamly.co’s #Versalette challenge.  It was a lot of fun taking one item and making it work with 5 outfits for 5 days.  But it was also a great learning experience regarding my wardrobe.

My 3 #Versalette Challenge Lessons:

  • Be creative.  This one item of clothing can be worn 30 ways.  However, working in an office environment, meant I had to keep 4 of those 5 days more professional.  I had to be creative with the other clothing items I paired with the versalette as well as my accessories.
  • When you have fewer things, you have more options.  Suddenly, my closet was a new experience.  I began pairing items that I wouldn’t normally have put together.   I enjoyed trying different looks and the best part was no one noticed that I wore the same thing for 5 days (except my husband, who “volunteered” to be my photographer).
  • I can eliminate even more.  I realized that I still have plenty of things to wear for work and home.  After having Tater Tot almost a year ago, my style has really evolved and I have a lot more focus regarding the clothes I do and don’t like.  This focus allows me to be brutal when it comes to purchasing new items.

I think the most important part of the challenge was the fun!  It was nice to step out of my box for a week as well as find inspiration from the other participants.

  1. This is really cool! I am learning similar things by taking on the Minmalist game getting rid of things based on the day were on for the month of February. Thanks for the read!

    1. I have heard about the Minimalist game but am not prepared to unload that many items in one month. I will be anxious to hear how the process goes for you!
