Small Town Simple

The Simplicity Adventures of a Mother and Daughter

Answering a Call

“While most people are chasing after success, glamour, and fame, simplicity calls out to us with a smaller, quieter, calmer voice. It invites us to slow down, consume less, but enjoy more.” Joshua Becker from Inside Out Simplicity

A simplistic lifestyle has a tendency to call out like a siren.  And then the excuses begin to creep in: it’s too much work, I don’t have the time, what if people think I’m weird?  Don’t let those negative thoughts derail your quest toward a simple life.

Slow Down

Minimalism invites its followers to take life at a completely different pace.  You are going against the norm of the everyday frenzy that most people succumb to.   Put your phone down and turn off the television.  Enjoy the quiet.  It allows for time to watch a sunset or a sunrise.  It allows for time to journal.  It allows for time with family and friends and excellent conversation.  A simpler lifestyle involves throwing out the clutter and the excess in order to live a life at a pace you are comfortable with.

Consume Less

The very nature of simplicity involves less consumerism.  You do not want to throw out 10 books, only to purchase 5 more (this is one of my biggest problems).  Minimalism involves determining what you need versus what you want.  Consuming less means you have more time to enjoy the possessions that you do have.  It means there isn’t as much to clean.  It means you might have a larger bank account at the end of the month.

Enjoy More

The most important part of a simpler life is enjoying life.  It enables you to be present.  It allows us to relish each moment because we aren’t worried about getting the house cleaned or running the next errand.  We can appreciate smiles from our friends and family, an excellent home cooked meal, and the rain that brings cooler weather.

Make this your mantra today: slow down, consume less, enjoy more.  Answer the call of your minimalist siren.
