The Simplicity Adventures of a Mother and Daughter

My Summer Story

“Summertime is always the best of what might be.” Charles Bowden

It’s August and the Texas heat is finally starting to set in.  Summer hasn’t ended yet, but the majority of my summer bucket list has been fulfilled.

The last two and a half months have been filled with so many big and little moments and they have flown by so quickly.  There was many a lazy morning with a hot cup of coffee and a good book.  There was time for naps during warm afternoons.  There was fun in the water: at the lake, at the pool and at the beach.  There was time for a little sun on my skin.

Six years of marriage were celebrated with a weekend getaway, no routine, and wine.  There were excellent conversations as well as relaxing moments of quiet when a toddler wasn’t demanding our attention.  It was peaceful.

Saturday mornings were spent at the farmers market.  I watched Tater Tot try samples from the vendors and flash his big smile in appreciation.  We picked out fresh fruits and veggies to cook or freeze that week.  Saturday nights were spent at home engaging in great conversations with Mom while we listened to Tater Tot talk himself to sleep.  I truly appreciated these routines that we created.

I dedicated more time to reading, devouring books on a wide range of subjects.  I spent time with my family.  We explored new places together and I learned that any new experience with a 1 year old is an adventure.  We tried our hand at gardening again this year.  We didn’t completely succeed so we are considering some different options for next year.

It’s not a story filled with lots of adventure, but it’s my story.  It’s filled with love, family and good memories.

Do you have a summer story?

xo, Lauren
