Spring Cleaning – Part 1

spring cleaningThe snow has melted and winter is slowly beginning to move out.  We have been cooped up inside hibernating and it’s about time for us to throw open the windows to let the fresh air in.

I haven’t always been the best “house cleaner” in the world.  I’m getting better at it as we continue to clear out clutter.  Clear surfaces and floors make the whole cleaning process easier.  So, I won’t lecture about the best cleaning methods or the best tools to use to clean.

Instead, here are 3 ideas that you can easily do to kick start your spring cleaning.

  1. Declutter your closet.  Eliminate clothes that don’t fit or have seen better days.  Hang up whatever you can to get as many things off the floor as possible.  Vacuum/sweep/mop the floor and try to wipe down any surfaces.  These steps will automatically give your closet a mini face lift.
  2. Clean out your fridge.  Try to use up any leftovers but throw out anything that has expired.  Be sure to give the shelves and drawers a good cleaning before putting everything back.
  3. Clean and flip/rotate your mattress.  This one is pretty easy, but it’s one that I’m sure only a small percentage of people actually do.  I like this tutorial and plan to try it out this week.

These easy tips will automatically add a little freshness to any home after being closed up from the winter months.  Be sure to check back later this week for my mom’s spring cleaning tips.
